Ahah! I hadn't thought of that! I will go home tonight and check that the timing marks on the pulley move as the engine revs up. I'm pretty sure that it is working though because when I changed a setting on my map from 13 degrees at 1000rpm to 10 degrees at 1000rpm, the engine changed sound, so I'm ...

Hi Spockie, Speaking to you on two subjects at once! Okay. I'll cover off the questions and see how we go.... No Vacuum leaks. The MAP sensor is reading exactly the same numbers as my on-dash boost guage (after I've done the conversion from kPa to Hg inches/PSI) so I'm confident it's working ok. Vol...

Leads and spark plug gaps...
Hi all, I have a MJLJ with the Motorcraft EDIS setup and was wondering if anyone can tell me the ideal plug gaps to run to suit the coil-pack etc, also I have had to get leads made up (Ford ones don't reach the VW plugs!) and have used 8.8mm Top Gun leads. Granted, the job's already done and I shoul...

G'day Spockie, thanks for the advice. It used to run fine on the dizzy, revved all the way to 6k clean as a whistle with the Compufire that I used to run until it's dizzy-top sender failed for a third time, which is why I went to MJLJ. Old dizzy was a 009 so I've tried to replicate that on the MAP a...

Hi Brent, No, sorry. Distributor gone and hole plugged so no dizzy for me any more! Having all sorts of trouble getting the mapping right though. I seem to get to about 4700 - 5000 and the power drops off :x I just can't seem to get the advance curve right. I don't have access to a dyno so it's a pa...

Update... Thanks for the advice Brent. Checked with a timing light and it was working fine. BTW, I have never seen such a still timing mark under the timing light!!!!! Amazing how much distributor flutter there was before! Managed to get an adaptor on eBay for 5 bucks so tried that and it works! Als...

Help with mapping ignition curve
G'day all, Well, I've finally got the MJLJ to talk to my computer and it's all looking good! What I have to do now is get the advances curves right. It currently seems to be running out of puff in a big way around 4500 in 2nd so I think I've got some work to do on getting the curve right. I looked i...

my USB adaptor at fault perhaps....?
Hi, I've looked through the topics and can't really find an answer to my question, hence this post. Apologies if the answer is out there and I just can't find it! I have my MJLJ all set up on my Baja and it runs sweetly..... at low revs.... so I'm thinking that the default configuration may be off t...

I was also thinking about the 'inside the pulley' mount. The trigger wheel should arrive today so I'm hoping for a look-see tonight. I've also seen the harmonic balancer type setup you talk about. My problem is the sand seal which means I can only run a sand seal pully which limits my options somewh...

Firing Order
Hi all, I hope this isn't a dumb question and bear in mind that I haven't got my EDIS, trigger wheel and coils yet, but how do I set the firing order on the EDIS and coil pack? Or do I not have to? Will the coil pack have noted on it which lead goes where? Is the EDIS already set with 1,4,3,2? These...

Hi Danny, Yes, I've got the MAP version. All bolted in place now and vacuum hoses hooked up! Keeping up with boost is via a rising rate fuel pressure regulator which is also hooked up to boost. This seems to work well when the ignition is running right! I looked at your pictures, thanks. Some ideas ...

Hi David, I've just received my megajolt and the EDIS, trigger wheel etc are on their way, then I can bolt it onto my baja with a type 1 motor like yours. Do you have any pictures of how you set up your trigger wheel and VR sensor? I think this is going to be the hardest part of my build.... Thanks,...
