Re: Is multi-spark discharge enabled?

Brent,
You say above that the MJLJ does not do the multi spark discharge like the factory ECU. Question was this feature enabled in any of the later Megajolt versions? Megajolt/E MK2?
Thanks,
Larry

Re: EDIS4 stand alone problems/question

Sorry for the long quiet period! Good news - I've tweaked the system to the point that it is working fairly well and, for an EDIS standalone, I'm fairly satisfied. I'd like to keep this readable so I'll be as brief as possible. Ask questions if something is obviously left out. 1. Every wiring diagra...

Re: EDIS4 stand alone

Thanks Brent for you reply. I will post on the other thread tonight. But as a tip off, I now believe that the performance of the EDISx is linear. I was able to tweak my system and get it to perform reasonably well. So, until we receive competence evidence to the contrary, we should go forward with t...

Re: capacitor for coil 12V pos supply ?

I have the same question on the capacitor. Based on comments that the capacitor wasn't need, I originally omitted this component. But, every wiring diagram that I've seen, including Megasquirt (Bowling & Grippo), show a 25uf capicator in the power circuit feeding the EDIS and coil. The Ford 2nd ...

How to use the PM machinery

I have composed and "submitted" 3 PMs and they sit in my Outbox folder and show a sent date notation. But the Sent folder is blank. Have they indeed been sent or are they in Outbox limbo? Also, is there a means of getting notified when there is a reply to a PM or one receives a PM? Thanks,...

EDIS4 stand alone

I have another thread going and that is where I'll be positing specific info. The other thread notwithstanding, I thought I would ask a simple question which may be difficult answer. Question: do we believe that the EDIS4 module in limp mode is robust throughout the reasonable rpm ranges? Let's say ...

Re: EDIS4 stand alone problems/question

I pursued the timing issue and have found that I'm getting about 6* to 7* additional advance in all instances. Trigger wheel geometry: the trigger wheel is 9.875" in diameter. That's about 31" in circumference. Coming inside that diameter 3/8" for the 1/4" flat head rivets, the c...

Re: EDIS4 stand alone problems/question

Diagnostic procedures on Thur, Jan 27: 1. Reversed polarity. Engine would not run at all on the E.I so polarity was correct. I immediately put back to the way it was. 2. Installed another new set of plugs with the original Denso gap (.027). No change. I put the other set (.040) back in. The thinking...

EDIS4 stand alone problems/question

THIS THREAD MOVED FROM GENERAL DISCUSSION I have cobbled together an EDIS4 stand alone (at least for now) system for a 4 cyl aircraft engine. Dual ignition - two sets of spark plugs. The VRS is aligned with TDC to give a 25* limp mode. The engine is started on the remaining magneto, which uses an im...

New style Ford coil pack (wasted spark) 101

Below are some observations - I'm a Newbie so take them with some skepticism. Sometime between the early 90s and 2000, Ford created a "new style" wasted spark coil pack that: 1) was smaller and lighter; 2) mounted naturally flush to a flat surface; and 3) used more conventional spark plug ...

One EDIS4 - two 4 cylinder coil packs ???

Newbie here. Can a single EDIS4 simultaneously run two 4 cylinder coil packs (output from pins 10 and 11 branched to two coil packs)? This possible configuration would be applicable to a 4 cylinder engine that has two spark plugs per cylinder. If using just one VR and the EDIS4 signal is robust enou...
