No spark Please help
Hi i tryed wiring in my megajolt today but i have no spark. I connected the sensor withe screened cable and grounded the screen with the ground of the edids 4 i connected to the coilpack as the installation guide says and i tryed swapping the wires on the vr sensor still nothing. What i found strange is the the power to the edids 4 was a black wire and the ground was a brown is this right? Have i done anything wrong? I have connected anything else yet.

Not likely. Unless you are accidentally earthing one of the signal wires from the VR sensor..
The shield is to prevent electrical noise from getting into the low voltage VR sensors wires and confusing the Edis, not connecting or misconnecting it might cause noise related misfiring once the engine is running, but shouldnt stop it sparking.
Are you sure of your wiring ? On my EDIS4, the only brown(ish) colored wire is one of the coilpack trigger wires.
My EDIS4 power wire is White with a red stripe, and the ground is black.

You will want to make sure the EDIS module and coil pack are seeing +12V when your ignition is to 'ON' *and* when cranking. Use a multi-meter and test right where you're splicing into the EDIS module harness.
You'll want to shield the VR sensor cable on the EDIS module side- but this will guard against noise on the line, which would show up as intermittent mis-firing, but after the engine is running.
Switching the VR sensor polarity is a good technique. The voltage you're seeing is about right.
If you're convinced you have everything wired up correctly, you may try a different EDIS module.

Assuming the engine isnt moving, that makes sense to me - If one end was at 12v and one was at 0v, then the coil would be charging, and the EDIS probably wont start charging the coil until it decides the engine is moving. Otherwise the coils would overheat.
So you shouldnt see a voltage difference across the coils until things start moving.
Have you checked your coil pack is working ? Its unlikely that both coils would be dead, but worth checking.
Disconnect from the edis, sit a pair of spark plugs in the HT outputs with some wire wrapped around the thread to earth, and manually apply and remove 12v with a couple of wires to the coil inputs - 12v to the common (Coilpack Pin 2?), earth one of the wires that goe to the EDIS triggers. you should see some nice sparks when you disconnect the trigger wire..
I assume a 'scope isnt available to check the signal from the VR sensor ?
It does sound like evidence is pointing to a faulty EDIS module so far. Do you have a spare available ?

I haven't got a great deal to add to what others have said on the thread:
- test that the coils will give you a spark when you manually apply and remove an earth to pins 1 and 3 (with pin 2 at 12v)
- check connectivity from your external wiring to the inside of the EDIS plug, just to make sure there's nothing wrong with the pins in the plug
- visually check all the EDIS pins for corrosion etc that might prevent your external signals actually getting all the way into the EDIS module
And the ultimate silly thing - you have removed one of the teeth from the trigger wheel so that it is 36-1, haven't you?
Do you have any pictures of the trigger wheel with the VR sensor mounted? Might be worth a look...

Right it was a silly thing! wasnt going to say but it might help someone else if they get the same problem here we go. I was trying it again tonight holding the spark pulg to an earth and turnig it over still no spark, But then i noicted a slight small spark just as i stopped turning the engine over so i tryed it a few more times and i was only getting the small spark when i stopped turning the engine over the odd time. So i had a think checked it and 12v were there held the meter on it and turned the engine over the 12v dissappered i thought that was strange? So i went to my fuse box and held the meter across different fuses until i had one that stayed live when turning the car over connected to that and it started!! Dont know much about the electrical system on a car so didnt know the 12v would dissapear when the engine was turning over. But thanks for everyones help and advice i got there in the end. Cheers
