What do I need to make a Ford 4.0 OHV V6 carburated work?

Post by cook11 »

I am currently working on a carburated 1992 Ford 4.0L OHV conversion. I have already started on the modified intake. What do I need ignition wise to make this successful? Can someone give me any help? Thanks

Firstly welcome to the forum.

To answer your question you will need:-
Coil pack for a 6 cylinder engine, obviously.
Ignition leads, to fit coil pack to plugs.
EDIS 6 module, from a Ford with partial loom to make life a bit easier.
36-1 Triggerwheel, mounted on the crankshaft.
VR sensor, should be able to get this off the same vehicle you get the EDIS 6 from and be part of the loom.
Megajolt unit, best to go MAP on a standard to moderate tune of engine. Normally use TPS on multicarb or high tuned engines.
Laptop, with a serial connector or a laptop and a serial adaptor, depends on the age really. Older ones tend to have serial connector built in.
An ignition map or rolling road setup to get the best out of it all.
Vacuum pipe

Hope this helps

Hello and welcome!

Also take a look at the Installation guide, here- it starts with a system overview and documents all of the components you need to complete your installation:

We're here to help along the way. Just ask!

If it is a 36-1 wheel, then yes- you would need to ensure the crank sensor is also installed with the correct orientation. See our installation docs for more info on this subject.
