How do i test with a 9v battery?

How do i test with a 9v battery? I have plugged it in to where the picture says but can't connect it to my PC. Checked port settings etc
Is the green led supposed to be on? How can i circuit test the whole pcb??

Do you have a multimeter available to you??? If not they are about £5-10 for a basic one and always come in handy.
