possible connector fault?

Post by mini-sprite »

Hi
Installed for well over a year now and had no problems…….well still having no problems to be honest. My wife wanted here classic mini tuning for the events she is doing this year. She drove a fair way today to a rolling road but the tuner could not connect with the Megajolt. I thought that it would be the usual “not on the same com port issue” so he tried this but sounded on the phone as if he had done all this. Wife had to come home with nothing done.

Ive had a look tonight myself and I can’t fathom what wrong either.

The usb to serial adapter is a known working one as I use the same make to connect to my race mini that runs DTA engine management.

There is no visable burnt chips on the board (V4) and there is 12v getting to the pin on the multiplug.

Ive tried an older version of software 3.00 and also downloaded the new version 4.0 software.

I can load another map but it does not appear currant on screen it just comes up in a blue background and the rev gauge doesn’t register on screen.

I’m either putting it down to a dodgy patch cable (I think that is the correct term for it?) or the grey adapter thing.

Am I right in thinking that the grey adapter is only connected by 3 wires (black, red, yellow)? But there is another 3 wires (blue, white, green) that are not connected inside the adapter. Maybe this is the problem lol.

Hello,

With the engine running and the computer connected, does it show runtime changes (RPM, load, etc?) this would be a good test for connecting. You should also be able to read the ignition map.

What error do you see at the bottom of the window in the Megajolt tuning software? You should be using the latest 4.x version, by the way.

Also try testing on the bench with a 9V battery using a computer with a regular serial port, bypassing the USB adapter- just as a test.

Let us know what you find out!

Hi Brent
engine running there is no change to rpm or load

the error messages it shows are
"time out reading cylinder count"
"could not open port"

i dont have a laptop with a serial port or know anyone that does so i can't do that bit.

all sorted :D I took all 3 chips off the board one by one and cleaned them, they had a bit of green corrosion on them.

Green corrosion! Is it installed in the engine bay? Marinated in salt water? :)

No but seriously its installed on the inside on the bulkhead there also wasn't a lot of corrosion but enough to give a problem.
