Integrated immobiliser

Has anyone thought of integrating an immobiliser into the MJL?

How about using an iButton? http://www.maxim-ic.com/products/ibutton/

Or a bit more costly would be something like TIs RFID

Keying a megajolt to an iButton wouldn't be too difficult and would provide a reasonable level of security. The fact that the iButton works on a contact basis means that it can't be cloned by a scanner, unlike an RFID tag. The programming of the megajolt to match the iButton would be a security loophole, but it would certainly scupper the casual thief.

Nothing is ever 100% secure though

I'm not sure about the 68hc908 but on the Atmegas I use at work you can set it so the internal flash and eeprom is unreadable externally and the eeprom is erased when you program the flash.

But anything will stop some little sod from hotwiring it and thats a good thing!

The problem is slightly more complicated that simply using an immobiliser to interupt the power to the megajolt (my first idea). The Ford DIS system is designed to perform a limp home function when the megajolt is not providing a signal. Therefore I have my immobiliser attached to both the power to the megjolt and the power to the EDIS Module. This prevent the limp home mode too.

Things are complicated in my setup by the fact that I have a totally keyless car

I'd forgotten about the EDIS limp mode. Would anyone take any bets that you couldn't start an engine at maximum advance though. In my experience if you advance the ignition when cranking then the firing pulse will oppose the starter sufficiently to stop it cranking.

How about set the rev limit to 500RPM or put a stupidly large advance on the moment it starts?

Anything to slow their getaway with your pride and joy.

Best option is a hidden fuel kill switch. and maybe a few other things.

Bottom line, like it was iterated before, if they're determined and have the time, they'll take it one way or another. Best to offer as much of a deterrent as possible.
