My MK Indy (pinto) swap from Dizzy to EDIS and MJ

Post by karlak »

I have removed the coil/dizzy setup from the Pinto engine now and have had it running with the Coil Pack and edis4, but without the MJ yet. All I did was to wire direct to the battery (with a fuse) to make sure the trigger wheel/sensor and all was working correctly. It starts so much better than with the dizzy and runs smooth - am I right in thinking that without the MJ connected this is like a "limp home" mode ?

Next Jobs are to find a suitable ignition live for the EDIS and the MJ (must be one easily accessible in the engine bay) - maybe the old Ignition module wiring has a suitable feed ? , then sort out the REV counter. Does anyonone know if the REV lead from the EDIS will work with a Ford Sierra tacho ? AND should I use the REV lead from the EDIS or the MJ one?

Just need to find a good 2 litre Pinto 2d map for the MJ then, before I hit the scrap dealers this week to find a TPS for the twin Dellortos. The MK Indy has been off the road for 3 weeks now and so want this sorted to get back out there :)

Cheers :D

So now I am a bit confused.

I have found an ignition live directly off the Igntion barrel (yellow wire). However, if I connect the edis directly to the battery and a ground, then the car will run, BUT if I then use the live off the ignition barrel it will not fire up.

Any ideas ?

Sounds like your wire is only hot when the key is on. You need a lead that is hot in START and RUN. Good luck.

Yep, thanks. I id go for a ignition live back at the key barrel, but it appears that this drops 12volts while cranking. But now I have used the Live from the old Coil +ve and it starts (and stops) fine :)
