Brent,
I'm still having a problem with my board not responding, and Paratime has been the only person to answer my most recent post.
My controller is plugged into com1 with a 6' DB9 cable with 12v supplied to it.
I've downloaded & installed the Java com software and placed the files in their correct directories, and when I start the MJLJ Configurator software it returns the error - "could not connect to controller."
Should I be doing some command line stuff with the bootloader firmware to load the MJLJ S19 record first, and then use the bootloader programming software before the controller is recognized by the configurator software?
If so, what's the command line syntax?
H E L P please!!!!!!
Barry

Brace yourself...
OK, I think no one has answered you, because you're not going to like the answer. First, I'll review my problems, since you seem to be having the same sort of trouble.
1) I had the error "Unable to open port COM1; unknown serial port"
This was a result of having some of the files in the wrong directories. You seem to have solved this as I did, because I moved on to the error...
2)Could not connect to controller.
This was a result of not having the board powered up after it was attached to the serial port. Being very brave (stupid) I powered the board up while it was plugged into the computer, although I closed the MJLJ tuning program first. After powering the board, I reopened the tuning software and the board's preprogrammed spark map sprang up on the screen. I could change the values and save the changes to the board with no problem.
So, here is the problem. From what you've described, the board should be working perfectly. Sadly, this points to the most likely culprit as a hardware problem.
I would suggest you first check the orientation of the chips and the crystal to confirm that they are not plugged in backwards. I blew up a replacement chip before, by mistaking the mold mark for the pin one dot. It happens.
Try plugging in a different serial device to your cable (if you can find such a thing). Cables come bad out of the bag, and the serial port may not be configured correctly in the BIOS.
If you can take a very high resolution pic of both sides of your board I can try and see if all the parts are installed correctly with no solder bridges.
If none of these help, you either have a bad part, or your computer is just not compatible with the system.
I am going to start a thread about us, Brent's loyal fans. If any of us want to, and live in the area, we can give each other some hands on help. There are times when you just gotta see it.

Strange Controller behavior
Hey Paratime,
Thanks for posting guy. You brought up a number of things for me to check. I was SO confident that I had done everything by the numbers that I installed my board in it's case, and sealed it with silicone.
I'll take it apart tomorrow and start looking it over carefully again.
Thanks,
Barry
