This may be a stupid question for all you knowledgeable types but please bear with me.
I have a Ford VR sensor without a mounting bracket and a BMW one with. The simplest option would be use the BMW sensor but would this work?
(If so, anyone know which wire is which?)
Thanks,
Matthew

Possibly - ! A few moments
Possibly - !
A few moments Googling for "bmw vr sensor" finds a number of hits related to successfully using the m20 VR sensor on MegaSquirt - so that's a big positive for it working, if it's that type
Which pin is which is more difficult - it will probably work one way round and not the other!
If you've got all the EDIS kit you need, you could set it all up on the bench in a test rig to try it - you don't need the Megajolt at this stage as the VR sensor only interfaces to the EDIS module:
- put a suitable bolt through the 36-1 trigger wheel and mount it in a electric drill
- wire up the edis module and coil pack according to the normal wiring diagram - there's very few connections required
- use a car battery as the power supply
- use one plug lead on the coil pack, with a spark plug at the other end with the 'outer' earthed
- wire up the VR sensor to the EDIS module
- spin up the drill and hold the sensor near to the teeth - either by hand or with a suitable temporary mounting - 2-5mm should be fine
-...and if the drill's fast enough (over 500rpm say), and the VR sensor's the right way round, you should get some sparks
The obvious thing to do is use the Ford sensor first, get sparks with that and then substitute the BMW VR sensor.
(Doing the test rig thing is a great idea anyway - if you've proven all the EDIS kit works on the rig, but not in the car, you know you've got an install error rather than a fundamental EDIS problem...)
Report back - it will be good to know if the BMW sensor works or not...
