Second Opinion Please

Post by rmaddock »

I have been trying to work out an advance map for my LandRover - I haven't actually got MJLJ installed yet but I like to think in advance.

The figures I've come up with seem high compared with other maps given here so I thought I'd submit my numbers for a second opinion (or two).

Okay, the facts are as follows:

I have a basic, static timing of:
3 deg BTDC.

My workshop manual tells me that:
vacuum advance starts at 102mm HG
vacuum advance max is 12 deg at 457mm HG

Then, centrifugal advance is given as follows:
38 to 42 deg at 4500 rpm
30 to 34 deg at 3500 rpm
22 to 26 deg at 2500 rpm
12 to 16 deg at 1200 rpm
4 to 12 deg at 900 rpm
0 to 4 deg at 600 rpm
no advance below 450 rpm

Idle speed is:
500 rpm (always feels horribly slow to me)

Rev limit is:
4500 rpm

I have assumed that the figure required by MJLJ at a given rpm is static timing + vacuum advance + centrifugal advance.

Here's the MJLJ config:
