Megajolt won't communicate with laptop?

Post by Mk1Sport »

when trying to use the megajolt tuning software, an error comes up saying 'timeout reading runtime data'
I've also tried to communicate with mjlj using hyperterminal but it still wont communicate (when 'C' is pressed, nothing happens).

my megajolt +12v connection is from the old +12v connection to the coil. i figured that way it would work well with the ignition switch. or should i route a new wire from the ignition 'on' direct from the ign switch?

its probably also worthy noting that edis is not running yet (it is all wired up, though) as i am waiting for a few brackets etc to come from the engineering shop. hmm just realised that perhaps its not reading runtime data because the engine itself isnt running?

anyway, help please
and once again, excuse my ignorance with computer stuff

Good that you used hyperterminal as a secondary test to verify communications.

The MJLJ will connect to the configuration software without the EDIS module connected- you should be able to test.

Are you certain that 12V is being fed to the MJLJ? Is the polarity correct on the molex connector - i.e. you have ground and 12V oriented correctly?

Another test: Everytime you power-cycle the MJLJ, the bootloader on the firmware sends out a small amount of data on the serial port.

When connected via hyper terminal, you see this activity as a few characters on the screen whenever power is applied to the MJLJ. Are you seeing this happen?

thanks again Brent

heres my latest find... i tired your 'power cycle' suggestion and yes hyperterminal does recieve a small amount of data from mjlj. what i found odd, though, is that it only recieves any data when i turn the ignition to 'start' as opposed to 'on' so im assuming that mjlj and edis is recieveing the +12v from the starter motor circuit. i find this odd because the wire i used for the 12v connection was the (only) wire that connected to the old +ve terminal on the coil...

anyway im going to splice a new wire into the ignition directly and see how we go from there...
