hall effect sensor interface?
would it be possible in some way to use the existing output from the hall effect sensor on my dizzy instead of the 36-1 trigger wheel? i know the edis wont read the hall sensor output but is there a simple design solution for interfacing the two? also how different is the hall output from the pip signal from the edis?
Afraid not
The EDIS needs the sine wave output from the VR sensor plus the discontinuity of the missing tooth as shown in the middle of:
http://www.bgsoflex.com/mjl/mjl_edis_summary.html
in order to create the PIP pulse to the MJLJ at the correct time and it (probably, not entirely sure) needs the same waveform to be able to fire the coils at the correct time based on the returned SAW.
The EDIS also needs the VR sensor waveform to give the 10BTDC static timing that it generates in limp home mode ie when the MJLJ become disconnected/fails - not that it ever does the latter!
You could put a toothed wheel inside the dizzy, but it would need to be 72-2 (ie 35, gap, 35, gap) as it rotates at half speed, but I think the wheel would have to be pretty big so may not fit
The relationship between hall effect and PIP is more interesting and web references aren't consistent on when the PIP pulse actually occurs in the cycle - it doesn't matter to the MJLJ as it just uses the width of the pulse as an indication of rpm.
