does the coil pack have to be earthed?

stupid question (maybe) but does the edis coil pack have to be earthed? at the moment its not, the bracket it has been bolted to is heavily painted so no earth at all... or is the ground connection through the spark plugs?.

im asking this because a 'normal' coil doesnt just have the +12v connection it has a ground as well

The frame of the coil pack does not need grounding. All of the electrical connections route through the coil pack plug.
