It only handles a very small current, so a low-wattage one is fine (mine's 1/6 Watt). You will need to consider the physical robustness of the item if you're planning to hang it off the back of the switch, as the low wattage resistors can be quite frail - they were designed for soldering onto circuit boards. In the end I used a small resistor, but encased it in some heat-shrink tubing to give it some strength.
