Could you do twin spark ?

I added a section to the wiki comparing current consumption between a normally wired coil driver and a one driving two primaries in parallel.

more twin plug questions...

Post by racerx9146 »

I have digested this thread to the best of my caveman processing but still have a question...

Much like another user on this board I am contemplating using (2) edis modules and (2) coils to run my twin plug Porsche 911 engine.

Questions?

Will the Megajolt set advance for 2 EDIS units at the same time?
Will the EDIS units mind sharing the VR signal? Diodes needed?

Has anyone actually successfully twin plugged using the technique in this post?

thanks Daron

on a 4 cylinder engine, rather than running two seperate 4cyl coilpacks as wasted spark, couldnt you just use one 8cyl wasted spark coilpack but obviously with each two lead coil firing two plugs in the same cylinder (so twinspark not wasted spark)?

just a thought!

This is a late reply. A 4 cyl engine has an ignition event every 180 degrees of rotation. An 8 cyl engine has an ignition event every 90 degrees of rotation.

PARALLELED IGN COILS

Post by BRUCEROE »

There is a very basic reason, why 2 coils can't be driven in parallel by the same driver. When the current turns off, voltage on all windings will rise ONLY until current flows through ONE pair of spark plugs (ignition + waste). At this point that circuit voltage will drop, as will voltage on ALL the windings in the paralleled coils. This will PREVENT the other coils' plugs from firing at all. Bruce Roe
