Its definatley best to put the unit inside the car as the case and board will not be corrosion/wateringress resistant. If you leave you r car for prolonged periods without use then i would suggest putting the MJLJ unit into your home or a dry place.

Keep us posted on your progress ;)

Right had another hour at it today with no success, downloaded that v3.0.0 you linked brent but it says the file is corrupted and wont open? Anyway i think i've basically tried every programme from the v2 downloads page and nothing so far has linked up with the megajolt :(

What other programme should i be using as the v3.0.0 file seems to be broken? Then that way at least i know im using the right software!

Or could somebody send me the v3.0.0?

It might also be worth replacing the max232a chip as theres definatley a problem somewhere along the line communicating?

Argh sorry for all the questions! Desperate to get it sorted for weekend :(

Thanks in advance

Hey Zetec, I have just managed to successfully download and install configurator V3.0.0 and it all works fine for me. So this is certainly turning out difficult, but bare with it.

Try this simple loop back test for confidence in max232a and serial lead http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/tut/p/id/3450#toc2

To setup your hardware for this test, remove the processor chip (carefully, use a small flat screwdriver and slowly wiggle it under the chip a bit from each side at a time. The pins are delicate), connect sockets 11 and 12 together with a thin piece of wire. Have the serial cable connected up and hyperterminal open, then apply power to the mjlj unit. Once the settings are correct in the hyperterminal as per below.

Bits per Second: 4800
Data Bits: 8
Parity: None
Stop Bits: 1
Flow Control: none

You should be able to test the connectivity by just typing anything and it should appear in the screen as explained in the link i have given you.

To identify the sockets, for pin 11 and 12, use this http://www.kpsec.freeuk.com/components/ic.htm as its the best way i can explain it.

I'll PM you my number so give you can give me a bell anytime after 1900 tomorrow.

Fingers crossed :)

Managed to get v3.0.0 working, i was right clicking the link, hitting save as and then trying to install it off my start menu with no joy. It worked that way with all the other ones, but this morning i tried just clicking run on the link and its installed straight away lol

What a turnip.

Will try again shortly lol, 4th time lucky
