Does anyone know whether you can get a version of PocketC for WinCE1.0? Just been looking through my stuff here and found an old HP palm pc which would be great if I could use it with my MJLJ.
Cheers
Richard
anyone use a PDA with MJLJ software?

this programm will not run
this programm will not run under my PalmOS, will it?
just found that PocketC is available for Palm and think it would be nice to use my M500 with MJLJ.
or would it be "easy" to convert it to Palm?

My $0.02. PDAs are small,
My $0.02. PDAs are small, not made for tuning.
Why?
Tuning requires looking at the table while driving, and noting the spots where detonation occurs. PDAs are bad for that.
Tuning with my software requires less looking and more pressing the SPACE key (to mark a detonation spot). There are no keys on PDAs.
Cost of good PDA vs an economy laptop is around $300 vs around $500.
PDA software I've seen does not allow you to modify programmable outputs and number of cylinders. I think it doesn't have a runtime display either? I.E. PDA software is not as advanced as PC software. Also, we soon will be modifying the firmware and adding new features, such as knock sensing, and I also have plans for bigger tables, rapid acceleration. I don't think the PDA software you mentioned is being updated.
Why mess around with game boys and PDAs and cell phones. Get a laptop. Cheap used laptop will run you $150, and it's perfect to keep in your garage. I have Dell Dimension 2600. You can get a 2650, upgrade memory, and buy aftermarket battery that lasts 2 hours, and it will cost you less than your PDA.
Bottom line, there is no noticible development of Megajolt software for PDAs, and the once we have does not offer the ability to tune everything, and PDAs are evil!

you are right PDAs are far
you are right PDAs are far from usefull for tuning, but i allready own it and it would nice to use it with MJLJ, not so much i would learn to programm it myself
and i have 2 laptops, old but running nice, just for MJLJ and MS so that isn't any problem

PDA vs GBA vs Laptop
Each have their place in my mind. My MJLJ will be going in my 59 Sprite, no top. My laptop really isn't mine, it belongs to the company I work for. I think the lap top is better for major tuning but it would be nice to be able to have something small to carry around for spot tuning and trouble shooting, another tool in the bag so to speak. In a tiny roadster like mine, space and security are in short supply to be carrying around a laptop. I have a Dell Axim but would still prefer the GBA program since I have three kids and now have six spare GBA's, of which I paid for 0 of them.

Did you get this running on your palm?
I have a palm Vx, pocket C runtime installed easily, but the "quick install" on the PC won't let me HotSync .app files. Or am I missing something simple?
Cheers, Paul.

hi paul, the pocket c files
hi paul, the pocket c files on my web site are intended for pocket pc's (windows) only i'm afraid - unfortunately the programming languages are slightly different between palm and pocket pc's so the application wont work on your palm.
ps. tuned my imp with these programs too!
cheers

Hi David, Thanks for the
Hi David,
Thanks for the reply, I'll be the first to confess limited understanding of computers, let alone PDAs! I might have to splash out on a newer bit of kit.
Nice to know more Imps (Clan in my case) use this, I know of a few with megasquirt.
Cheers, Paul.

Further to my question the other day about wiring in the Ipaq 28/2900 Series of PDAs I can confirm you dont need to hack cables up to make it work with the Pocketspark (thanks to dh154, David, for that program) for the Megajolt.
What you need is the Sync Cable (which has USB and RS232 Serial Ends for Syncing with PC) plus 2 male gender changers and a null modem adapter with female ends on both sides.
You then need to plug in the gender changers on each side of the null modem adapter and then plug the Serial plug from the Sync cable into one side and plug the other side into the Megajolt.
Alternatively you can use a null modem cable with male plugs on each end.
For those that dont know, a null modem cable is basically a cable which has pins 2 and 3 (RX and TX) crossed instead of straight through. A bit like a crossover network cable. This is normally to allow two computers to talk to each other like a mini network, rather than a computer talking to a device, like a modem, or megajolt, or say measuring some other scientific instrument.
Seems to work fine now. Everything works for me with the exception of updating the numbers to change settings. I think I need an addon keyboard to make that option work as the pocketspark program does not have the option to pull the onscreen keyboard up on my Ipaq 3835.
I was going to try the bluetooth option to see if I could get that to work like my laptop, however my CF bluetooth adapter has died. I think it should work though if the pocketspark program is reprogrammed to see the appropriate com port of the bluetooth (or infrared? )adapter (com 7?) instead of com1 on the pocketpc.
It is handy to see the MAP load settings as you drive whilst making a mental note of the current RPM relative to any pinking that may occur. This is because the PDA has a slot in demister vent mounting jacket which keeps it at eye level.
Kind regards,
David
