All in :-), but it don't work :-(

Post by Jenko »

Hi all,

Megajolt now installed, but alas, I can't get the car (westfield, ford CVH engine) fired up....

MJ has map loaded and works fine with PC...But I can't even get the car started with limp home mode....

I took the plugs out and span the engine....VR showed 300mv in AC while cranking, and check signals on PIP ans SAW as per MJ manual.......I've checked toothed wheel, and made sure missing tooth is in the correct place

Engine turns but sounds like it's having a hard time (as if there is too much advance), and there is no firing what so ever.

A few observations / questions.......

My edis has a wire on Pin 2 that is not connected - what should I do with this?. Ditto pin 4 (brown wire)

My TPS range is from 4.5k (throttle closed), to 1.5k (throttle fully open) ...does this sound ok?...Also, should the TPS be grounded to chassis as well as MJ (tried both but did not make any difference)?......

Is it safe to assume that the two VR sensor wires should colour match the wires on the EDIS.....

Many thanks for your help....This was the first tim I tried starting it, so I'm not too disheartened YET!!....

Thanks.

Paul.

Try swapping VR sensor

Try swapping VR sensor polarity. On your EDIS module swap wires on pin 5 and 6.

EDIS 2 and 4 are not

Post by MartinM »

EDIS 2 and 4 are not connected to anything in a 4-cylinder MJLJ installation.

Leave the MJLJ completely disconnected (ie disconnect the Molex connector).

Take all the plugs out and lay them on the block. Any sparks when you turn over the engine? You've got to get to this stage before progressing further

It would seem sensible that you match the colours of the wires on EDIS and VR cables, but you could try swapping them over. Also, if the trigger wheel is 180 degrees out, you can fix that by swapping pins 10 and 12 on EDIS that go to the coils - but the first thing is to get some sparks at all, then worry if they're 180 degrees out!

When you've got it running on EDIS alone, add the MJLJ back in, initially with no TPS...
..then prove that you've got 2D ignition (advance changes as rpm)...
...then introduce the TPS to give you 3D ignition.

Report back....
