Config switch question (MAP)

I've just been mulling over the schematics and pictures of the controller board, and wondered - can a piece of wire be soldered into R3 on the board of a MAP-enabled unit (taking power from the same place as C8 ) to show a 5V source on the molex or is the power supply not upto the job? I just though it might work, then the switch can be set up much more tidily, a'la TPS units.
I am tempted to have a go - I just don't want to kill my controller before the car's MOTd

You can re-create the TPS vref portion of the TPS - enabled unit to get that 5V on the circuit- there is plenty of power from the VReg to twiddle the bit on the input port.

But the easiest way is to put a 1K resistor in place of the inductor.
