hi guys ive just bought a MJLJ for my mk 3 escort, its a rs1600i (1.6 cvh engine) which i am fitting a turbo technics conversion to, in theory the map for a rs turbo will be ok but i intend to run the original rs1600i twin coils instead of a coil pack, i have been told that a MJLJ has been used to run twin coils before but i am unable to get hold of the guy that did the conversion to check the wiring.

the coils work by a permanant 12v and a pulsed negative signal from the original cars ecu so im guessing i would use pins 10 and 12 of the edis4 module, the main questions i have are

1.)i want to have an output which will control the cars fuel shut off system which currently works when the throttle is released and the revs are above 1400rpm is this possible?

2.)does anyone have any pictures of the sensor mouted so i can get an idea of what type of bracket i need to make

3.) looking through some previous posts i have come across other cvh installs which use the late efi cvh engine which already has a hole for the sensor and probably a flywheel that would work as well, as i need to change my engine to a lower compression one for the turbo would it simplify things if i used one of these engines???
thanks in advance

Hi Simon,

Welcome! For your sensor mounting question, we have one example of a sensor mount in the installation guide- this was done on a Toyota 4AG engine. http://www.autosportlabs.net/MJLJ_V3_ve ... stallation

Other escort owners should be able share their sensor mount design. However, in any case- you need a bracket that is very rigid so you get a clean signal to the EDIS module.

For the fuel switch question- it seems that you want a way to shut off the fuel pump when the engine is not running. You could use an RPM switch set to trigger below 500 RPMs. The one problem with this is you need the pump to operate at cranking RPM, which is often below this threshold. You really need a circuit that stops the fuel pump when the engine is not running for some period of time; perhaps by disabling the fuel pump when it hasn't seen an ignition event for X amount of time.

Regards,

thanks for the reply Brent, the fuel shut off is not for the fuel pump but basically a crude solenoid designed by ford to reduce the air flow on th emechanical injection systems, i have a switch on the throttle assembly which gives a negative signal when the throttle is closed but i only need the solenoid to operate at above 1400rpm otherwise it affects the idle, not a major issue of i cant control this with the mjsj though

Well - if you need a simple RPM activated switch you can simply use one of the 4 programmable outputs on the MJLJ. You can trigger on RPM or Load; and you can configure it to 'turn on' or 'turn off' when crossing the set threshold.

See the installation guide and configuration software for more info on how you can leverage these outputs.
