Is there anyone in the Benfleet area in Essex who can help with my 'Mapping' and general set-up etc?!?!?

I'm a real novice at this!! I've never attempted this sort of ignition set-up before and have a lot to learn!!! I bought my MJL on eBay and have version V.3.0.0. I'm running a 2.0l zetec silvertop, with ZX9R carbs with TPS. Firstly i have no idea whether the version of MJL i have is adequate? Also, i see no option on my version to calibrate the TPS.

I've read the threads about upgrades etc and am really struggling as it's as if i'm reading double dutch!!!!!! I had a little play tonight trying to load a MAP onto my MJL and have no idea whats worked or what the values mean!! I think to make matters worse i have a head gasket problem so need to change that tomorrow before diving in with loading MAPS and changing values etc. Really what i'm after is for someone to help talk me through how and what to do.

Any help or guidence anyone can give me would be most appreciated.

Can't help with the MJLJ issues, but if all the tuning jargon is a little confusing, have a look on Dave Walker's website. This helped me get my head around it all. Good info on all the sensors and what they do and why you'd want them etc. There's a lot of stuff on there about injection and things, so it's not entirely relevant to MegaJolt, but interesting nonetheless. Well I thought so anyway.

Judging by the use of capitals you may be getting confused about the difference between a Map and a MAP.
Map - table holding ignition/injection information for all speed and load sites of an engine (examples of which cam be found in the Ignition Map Library forum)
MAP - Manifold Air Pressure sensor. Used for measuring the engine load. High vacuum when cruising, low when accelerating. Along with the MJLJ it performs the function of the vacuum advance on the distributor (except more accurate and more tunable).

While it's not as good as face-face, we're ready to answer any specific, or general questions you might have. Just ask!

Regarding the Ignition map and the values: All of the 'values' you see in the middle of the grid represent actual ignition advance in degrees before top dead center (BTDC). The row at the top represents your RPM range; the left column represents load. So, the grid cell for a particular RPM and Load represents the ignition advance the engine will see while running.

So, what is the state of the installation? Is it already installed on the engine, or are you testing it on your bench? Do you have the EDIS components installed and running on your engine?
Take a look at the installation guide (how to section above) if you still need to do the installation.

The more recent version version of the MJLJ firmware supports the ability to calibrate your TPS. The easiest way to find this out is to download the latest 3.2.1 configuration software and connect to your MJLJ. If you're running the older firmware it should alert you.
