Hi, I'm from Malaysia and we don't have the Ford Modeo or Fiesta sold here,hence the non availability of the Ford EDIS components here.Just wondering if there are any other alternatives that can be used in its place? I intend to install the MJ in a Mini 1380.
We have the Japanese versions of the Fords(Mazda) sold in limited numbers.Thanks in advance for your help.

hi. MJLJ only works with EDIS, but used EDIS units, VR sensors, coil packs, and trigger wheels are all available on ebay, particularly from the USA. having just had a look, there is nothing there at the moment, but if you set up a search in ebay for EDIS or EDIS4 (or EDIS6 etc) you will find they come up frequently.

to get an idea of what goes up for sale, go to ebay Adanced Search, put in keyword searh of EDIS EDIS4 and set for any words, any order, and select 'completed listings'. that comes up with about 70 matches at the moment, about half of which are ford EDIS equipment.

re boost engineering... i tried to buy parts from him about 2 years ago. after several emails and phone calls, and leaving an order and credit card details, no items were ever sent, and no explanation ensued. i was not charged, i hasten to add, and i have no reason to doubt his honesty and sincere intention to send the goods. he just never got around to it and provided no feedback of any sort at any point.

with ebay, in contrast, i have bought about 90 items of all sorts, from all over the place in the last 5 years, and never had a problem.

last note: trigger-wheels.com in the UK really look like a good outfit, but beware of postage on items from the UK. it is an absolute killer!

Hello,

The MJLJ is designed to be mounted in the passenger compartment, away from more extreme environments of the engine bay. In that environment it should work fine, even in your area. There are no heat dissipation concerns with the MJLJ since there are no high power electronics on board.

For the EDIS module: as long as the unit is mounted where it's bracket can transfer heat to the chassis you should be fine.

That is very interesting. I don't think I remember seeing that before.

I would suggest getting the bracket try that the EDIS mounts to.

I also have noted that all the EDIS that I have found have all been mounted with the plug angled down. I suspect that this is to keep the connections relatively water and dirt free.

If you are not in a hurry I may have most of an EDIS4 set up for sale once I get my set up running. I got three when I was at the yard and will keep on on the shelf as a spare. However this may be a while as the high temps lately have been barley 30 deg!! Makes working on the car not so fun.

now, i am taking this as a question about the ambient weather conditions, rather than where it is mounted in the car. on that basis, i will answer from theoretical perspective and say that i am 100% sure you wont have any problems, even if it is a rather humid in malaysia! all the more because, as brent noted, the mj unit is intended to be mounted in the car, where you no doubt have air conditioning. i would reckon the EDIS unit under the bonnet would be just about indestructible.
