Most USB/serial adaptors seem to set the com port as 6 by default, try resetting it in the hardware profile to com 1.

The MJLJ software can set the default com port to a different one then you are using. You need to go to Windows System settings and see what USB port is actually in use, then set the MJ software to that port.

Also, some usb to serial adapters will select the next available com port when you plug it in, so depending on other external adapters like blue tooth, etc. it is possible that it can change when you insert it the next time. Just something to think about after you get it working, and then one day it stops communicating.
Do you know where to check what port the adapter is using? If not, post what operating system your computer is using.
