How useable is limp mode or fixed advance?

Currently I am sorting out a jetski with an EDIS/MJL but have been sidetracked by my old farm fiat panda 4x4 mini lorry which needs sorting, after 10 years of hard work and neglect.

I am tempted to fit an EDIS / coil pack (because I have spare) to replace the knackered distributor and since I hardly get out of 2nd or rev over 3000 I was wondering how fixed advance would cope.

I could set the advance to any setting but it would be fixed in rpm and MAP after that.
As I have no idea just how bad fixed timing is I am seeking some comments to help decide if I go this route.
Cheers
Vince

You can certainly set it to some mid point and see how well that works- I bet it would be 'good enough' for the duties it serves!

Perhaps put a locking screw in the dizzy advance mechanism and try it out before doing the EDIS conversion ?
