Hi,

I set up a MJ v3 a couple of years back. I could never get it to work right and eventually gave up. I've not decided to have another go.

The problem I had was that I didn't get an RPM signal. I triple checked the wiring and the PCB and could find no issues. I found this thread http://www.autosportlabs.org/viewtopic. ... ht=max232a which sounds like my problem exactly, so I want to replace the MAX232A chip.

Where can I order one from though?

Thanks
-Chris

Farnell should have what you need:

http://uk.farnell.com/jsp/search/browse ... x232a&Ntx=

Good luck, and let us know if you're still stuck.

Hi,

I had a look as Maplins.. I see a MAX232CPE and a MAX2322CPE, but not a MAX232A. Is one of these equivalent and useable for the v3 megajolt?

Thanks

Hello Chris,

The MAX232 is different from the MAX232A- you are correct that you want the MAX232A.

If you can't find it on Maplins, then try Farnell UK- it lists the correct one.

I looked at Farnell, but their minimum order is £20. Seeing as the chip only cost £1, I'd rather not have to waste £19 on stuff I don't need. Know anywhere else?

The Sipex SP232ACP works fine with the V3 design (i.e. is specc'ed the same as the Maxim 232A to use 0.1uF charge pump capacitors).

Item number 82-0864 at www.rapidonline.com (£0.86 each) - no min order value but you have to pay P&P for orders under £30...
...so you have (will have) a PM as well
