8v mk1 vw golf engine twin 40 webbers

Hi, i am a new poster to the forum .
I have looking at a number of sites Lotus Forum,Josh Bowler's site etc. I have collected most of the parts for an install of the Megajolt on a Vw 8v engine , at the moment standard with the exception of twin 40 Webbers.
What i am unsure about is where to start with an ignition map.
Is it as simple as observing the advance with a timing light and then creating a 2d map to input. If this is the case should i be doing this with the engine with the standard carb, dizzy and vacuum bits ( inc the vacuum damper/ball or whatever it is that is fitted to VW) or can i do this with the 40s fitted even though there is no vaccum advance connect.
It's not really a problem to temporarily refit the old carb to allow me to sort the map out , unless someone else has a map with suggested settings.
The plan is to prove my system , carbs and Megajolt on the 8v then i have a 16v to fit next year.
also i would like to get in contact with Bill Shurvington who is doing some Megajolt kits in the Uk , anyone got a contact email?
Thanks
