a few simple questions on Megajolt

Okay, I have a 2 litre VW motor I'll be turbo'in (blow through) in a bit but for now it's n/a with 40 DRLA Dellorto carbs. The questions I have are, when I go turbo I'm looking for a boost retard, can megajolt do this? I read a MAP sensor will be best for running with turbo so I'm good there, Also for tuning I have a Apple G4 laptop, can I use that? Also what program do I open this web site's ignition maps with?.... I know there kind of dumb questions but I'm a newbee, so be nice.....

Hi Volksnut and welcome to the forum.

When running the Map sesnor, obviously it can sense positive pressure from the turbo and you can set the timing to what ever you so desire. The map sensor available are 2.5bar which is standard.

You can open ignition maps when you have downloaded pc configuration/ tuning software from http://www.autosportlabs.net/MJLJ_V4_Downloads

Not too clude up on the old apple i'm afraid. You can normally get pretty cheap laptops with serial ports built in, as they tend to be dinosuars.

If the MAP sensor that comes with the 'Jolt won't go high enough to cover your boost range, you can replace it with one that will. Although not many NEED to go higher than 2.5 BAR. Absolutely you can do boost retard with the 'Jolt.

Does the G4 have a Windows compatibility mode? If so, you're in. If not, Brent(owner of this site) would know the answer. And there are plenty of older laptops that can work, as well as all the new, cheap minis.

I take it you have an inline 4, watercooled? You can use the Megajolt now, just drill/tap each runner and run them to a vacuum reservoir, then to the Megajolt.

Well the story goes, I've turbo'ed my car before but it was draw through...this time I want to go blow through and was needing a boost retard box, like the MSD BTM which is around $400 :? So my thinking was I've heard so much about these crank trigger ignitions and thought I would check around before I go hunting....oh did I say I was cheap  my car is below....2176cc, presently runs 14.80 1/4 mile, with junk heads, but I have good heads and all the turbo gear, but ignition.

Oops, my mistake! I see you use the PROPER method of cooling a motor!

I run a Raby 2165 type1 myself.

DannyP, are you from Georgia or local to his area? Are you coming down to BugJam in November?

No sorry. I am in Wallkill, NY, about 60 miles North of NYC.

BTW, never met Jake, but I LOVE his motor. I have talked to him on the phone quite a few times. IMHO, a great guy to do business with. No BS, only honest real-world performance and reliability. Even built a Megajolt V3 loom for him, for a type4 project. I also have a V3.

Well looks like I found a Dell laptop local for $100 so I'm good there, as for boost I'll be looking for 7 or 8psi (internal wastegate)...DannyP you said "If the MAP sensor that comes with the 'Jolt won't go high enough to cover your boost range, you can replace it with one that will" What does the Jolt come with? Thanks

Well that laptop fell through, but I'm looking at a Acer Aspire One notebook...anyone use one of those, I also see it doesn't have a serial port but you can get an adapter at Radio Shack

The Radio Shack USB/serial adapter is what I have, and it works well.
