edis diagnose

Hello crew

On the Edis 4 module I have found the IDM line inbetween the PIP and SAW line.
On the site about the "EDIS tech info" they explain that there is a puls emitted from EDIS to the stock ECU.
Would there be any possibility to device a warning light if there is failure?

The IDM pulse is designed to signal an ignition event from the EDIS module. If the ignition event fails, you will notice it very quickly: the engine won't run at all.

Unfortunately, the signal does not make a good tach signal because it emits a periodic pulse when the engine is not running.

Hello Brent

When I understand correctly the periodic pulse from IDM is a signal,when the ignition key is "on" and the engine "not runnig", that indicates proper operation.
Does the signal stop when somthing is wrong whith the coil or VR sensor You could pick it up from a warning light befor you start.
I hope you don't find this a useless item.
I can see myself sitting in the car warming up for the next race
and the engine stops!! Could be anything ...

I don't know this for an absolute Fact, but I believe that the IDM signal tells the computer if the EDIS module is still adjusting the timing, and has not switched into limp home mode, and fixed at 10 degrees. The computer compares the degrees advance when the coil fires (from IDM line) with the degrees advance that it commanded the EDIS to fire. If these don't match, it sets the Check Engine light. Otherwise, it might not be totally obvious that the engine no longer has an advance curve; the motor would just seem a little sluggish.
