possible connector fault?

Hi
Installed for well over a year now and had no problems…….well still having no problems to be honest. My wife wanted here classic mini tuning for the events she is doing this year. She drove a fair way today to a rolling road but the tuner could not connect with the Megajolt. I thought that it would be the usual “not on the same com port issue” so he tried this but sounded on the phone as if he had done all this. Wife had to come home with nothing done.
Ive had a look tonight myself and I can’t fathom what wrong either.
The usb to serial adapter is a known working one as I use the same make to connect to my race mini that runs DTA engine management.
There is no visable burnt chips on the board (V4) and there is 12v getting to the pin on the multiplug.
Ive tried an older version of software 3.00 and also downloaded the new version 4.0 software.
I can load another map but it does not appear currant on screen it just comes up in a blue background and the rev gauge doesn’t register on screen.
I’m either putting it down to a dodgy patch cable (I think that is the correct term for it?) or the grey adapter thing.
Am I right in thinking that the grey adapter is only connected by 3 wires (black, red, yellow)? But there is another 3 wires (blue, white, green) that are not connected inside the adapter. Maybe this is the problem lol.
