Here's my setup:

Laptop w/ WIN 7 SVC Pack 1.
RCP software is 1.1.6
Drivers successfully install and I can see that the driver is working under DEVICE MANAGER.


Powerd RaceCapturePro with USB cable.

Powers up fine (Green LED steady), GPS locks ok (Green LED flashes 10pps)

I can see the RCP on the DEVICE MANAGER as COM 4 (I've tried all 4 ports. - 3,4,5,6)

While COM 4 is being used I load RCP software, go to TOOLS and set Com Port to 4.

Then select READ at the bottom of the display.

It begins reading and comes back:

"Read Configuration Failed: An unspecified error occurred"

Any ideas what I might be doing wrong?

Ok, so my wife also has one so I opened hers up and plugged it in. Does the same thing.

I suspect it maybe a laptop issue.

Swapped USB cables, still no luck.

Tried w and w/o SD data card installed.

Sorry you're having problems.

After you click 'Read' does it count up some amount in percentage in the applications status bar (bottom of app) before you see the error?

Are you able to log data to the SD card? you can do a test logging by pressing the button on the front of RaceCapture, then press again after a few seconds.

Ok, it's the laptop. I have 3 laptops with different configs. Works on the other two just fine.


The status bar never came up, went right to the error.


So the laptop that it doesn't work on is a dell latitude e6500. It has 4 USB ports (comm ports 4,5,6,7.)

Works fine on my old XP laptop with single USB port. (Dell Inspiron 7000)

Also works on the wife's dell latitude d630 with win 7 service pack 1.

Can you tell me the OS information (version, service pack level) on the problematic laptop? Was it the Laptop w/ WIN 7 SVC Pack 1 as you describe in your original post?

Note, we're going to have a new version of Race Analyzer out tonight PST.

Also, you might want to try uninstalling the USB driver and re-installing again. Sometimes there might be a hiccup in the installation.

Finally, if it really matters to you, you can start windows in "Safe mode with networking". This will prevent most drivers and software that normally run from starting, leaving a cleaner system to test in.

Yes, It's WIN 7 Service Pack 1.

But I'd also note that Kristi's laptop has the same OS version and SP1 installed too. Different model laptop though and it works fine.

I'll try safe mode and see what it does.

I even updated the BIOS to no avail.

It's not a huge deal anyway, it's my work laptop. I just happened to have it easily available when I decided to fire up the RCP unit.

By chance does the Dell Latitude E6500 have some USB 3.0 ports?

At work we've found that some of our USB interfaced measurement/acquisition tools don't play nice with the USB3.0 ports on the right side of our HP 8560w. Works just fine in the USB2.0 ports on the left side of the laptop. Maybe you are experiencing a similar issue?
