Is speed typically taken just from the GPS data? I'm asking because I currently believe that there is a pulsed signal available at the back of my speedometer that I might be able to connect in parallel to without affecting the normal operation of the speedometer.

If the GPS is providing it, I'm already done with that.

Yes, speed along with latitude and longitude are outputs from the GPS. They are available at a rate up to 10Hz.

Thanks, I also just arrived at that conclusion, having just logged my drive to work with a sketchy cigarette lighter connection only. "This is just a quick test - unless it works!"
