Hello all,

I am about to do the one thing I wasn't really looking forward to and that is a hard reset of my RCP.

After trying to access my RCP through Race Analyser and USB (which at first went without a hitch), I kept getting Unknown Error messages whenever I tried to get the two together (Read/Write/Sensors).

I confirmed a COM port had been assigned in Race Analyser and Windows (Device Manager) (both COM8) and I could see the communication being started (0%), but always followed by the error message.

I reinstalled everything on the PC, bar Windows itself. I then tried updating the firmware. But when in update mode (with the three greens leds on), Windows did not even see the COM port (System specs > Device Manager). That was visible when connected in the regular fashion!

PC specs: Windows 7 with Race Analyser 1.1.15 and RaceCapturePro-1.2.8 firmware uploader package

Is there anything else I can try, before going down this road? I don't enjoy being this close to potentially ruining my RCP as it has made me quite happy over the past year!

Hi Michael,

Have you tried the V2 software and firmware? There were a number of updates around USB comms stability. You don't need to do a hard reset in order to update - there's no such thing in RCP MK1, actually, as long as you can flash new firmware using the bootloader.

It's not working ...

When I have 1 led Windows Device Manager shows COM10 and when connected under 3 green leds nothing.

I tried v1 and v2 and to no avail.

What do I do next?

Please try manually installing the bootloader drivers from this download:

First unplug RCP and then run the file bootloader_drivers.exe in that zip archive.

After the drivers are installed, reboot the computer

Then hold down the button on RCP while plugging it in under windows. Do you see RCP bootloader show up in device manager?

Did as instructed:

After install, shutdown, boot and reconnect with button pressed, 3 leds on, but no visible usb connection.
Disconnect en reconnect without button pushed: 1 led comes on and COM10 shows up in Device Manager.

What can I try next?

When you plug it in with the button and 3 LEDs showing, can you see the "AutosportLabs" bootloader under the "libusb" branch of Device Manager?

If you can post a screenshot of device manager with RCP plugged in under bootloader mode, we can take a look at it.

Am going through all driver properties manually.

Right, I've found the USB Device location and ran a "1 led" and "3 led" test.

See attachments.

Other than that, I am still clueless. Could de-installing and cleaning out the registry (regedit) help?

Hmm.

When you re-installed the bootloader driver, did you get any unusual messages?

Also, is your machine 32 bit or 64 bit? is it windows Vista?

Found "three led"setting under "Human Interface Devices".

Every time I connect in 3 led mode an additional HID device appears.
Every time I connect in 1 led mode RCP is recognized as a USB device.

systems specs are:

Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2400 CPU @ 3.10GHz
Memory (RAM) 8,00 GB
Graphics NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660

Windows 7 Professional
System type 64-bit operating system
Number of processor cores 4

No unusual messages during install of flasher_WinXPVista7_8.zip file

Sorry this is so time consuming and thanks for hanging in there.

Can you run: installer_x86.exe from within the zip file directly and try again, seeing if you see the bootloader come up (while button is pressed, etc)

Barring that, is there another windows PC you can try?

Unknown device "Autosport Labs bootloader"
Recognized as USB input device and HID Compliant ....

Right, it seems Windows has ID'd the RCP in 3 Led mode as the Autosport Labs Bootloader, but for reasons unknown seems insistent on referring to it as a HID device, rather than a USB device.

I have a Windows XP laptop, so I'll give that a try to, but that will be tomorrow.

For now I want to express my sincere gratitude for your help!

Got it to work on my ancient laptop (which is why it took so long before submitting an update). So I am saved!!!

Found some more required reading on when Windows gets USB and HID mixed up.

Will get back as soon as I have found a fix!
