This device from GaugeART takes can bus data and displays it on any display with a VGA or composite input. The resolution is a bit low at only 800x480 (480P), but that is a common resolution for many automotive LCD panels.

The manufacture has a web based tool for creating custom gauge layouts and designs.

It would seem that there are a few things missing that GaugeART would need to implement to use it with Race Capture. These channels would all have to do with lap timing.

This could be a great option for those looking at projects where they want a full color display that is direct powered and hardwired.

VGA is an odd choice. I'm not sure why they didn't implement a digital output. My only guess is that when the hardware was developed, they looked at the 12V panels on the market and determined that most of them offered VGA at best. I'm amazed how many automotive monitors are still being sold with only analog inputs.


If you are willing to do an indash "computer" there are a number of Android based units coming out of China that are available to fit double DIN or factory NAV locations. I have one in my F250. It is actually really nice. It has a quad core A9 processor, integrated wireless, bluetooth, and 1024x600 resolution. The only negative is that it only has 1 GB of RAM, but now 2 GB models are available.

For under $500, these are a great option. They are already made for the dash of many vehicles and they handle all the power on and off stuff better than a tablet with a 12V charger.

$400 may be a bit pricey, but there are many less expensive options. I just did this particular model because it fit the odd Ford OEM radio opening and had builtin support for many Ford specific options.

I need to park the truck next to the race car and see how well the latest beta of the RaceCapture App works on it.
