We used the RaceCapture Pro 2 for a 6-hour endurance race at Buriram International Circuit in Thailand over the weekend. The drivers loved the predictive lap time screen and the Samsung Galaxy S5 ran for the whole 6 hours with enough battery left over for a call home.

Unfortunately, one of our drivers made a mistake due to not understanding that state of the track: pit lane exit closed, safety car out, heavy rain... Resulting in a 150 lap penalty, obviously ruining our race.

So I'd like to know if there's a way to send an SMS message to the RaceCapture through the GSM module so I can use that to light up big yellow or red lights on the dash or override the smartphone display with a yellow or red background. Is the RaceCapture GSM transmit only, or can it receive too? Generally speaking I'd like to have the pit wall worker be able to push a button on some contraption that will transmit something across the GSM network and cause the RaceCapture Pro to take some action. Is this possible?

Right now it's not possible to send data to RCP, but it something we really want to build in the future! We'd probably start with something simple where someone in the pits could turn on/off a warning light on the tablet, then add more complex behaviors later.

Incoming messages from the app (that takes it from Podium) accessible from Lua...

Any progress on making this functionality available? It would be very helpful.

Sending notifications to the driver via Podium is on our feature list. Keep an eye on the future software updates!

Are you referring to 2.13 or 2.14?

The beta we just released is 2.13.0. Alerts are scheduled for 2.14.0.
