OBD2 canbus vs aux tx/RX (pre-canbus)

Hey, I'm planning on getting the pro mk3 but I have a 240sx with an ls1 engine from a 2004 GTO. Those ecu didn't come canbus but I can install an 05 GTO ECU and engine harness and get that to work so I can get canbus.

I wanted to know if I do this what is the benifitial of the canbus communication vs the pre-canbus way. Since this is a swapped engine I don't have tpms, fuel level, abs, and all the other features that the GTO came with. Is it faster communication? When I'm reading logs will more parameters be able to be set at higher hz?

Hi,

From internet info it seems that the 05 GTO ECU does support CAN bus, at least according to http://www.auterraweb.com/aboutcan.html.

The best way to verify is to look at an '05 and see if the CAN bus pins are populated in the OBDII connector underneath the dash.

The primary benefit of going CAN bus is you will get faster update rates vs the older OBDII protocol. We do support the older OBDII protocols via our Classic adapter : https://www.autosportlabs.com/product/o ... c-adapter/ which makes it a plug and play affair.

With RaceCapture/Pro or RaceCapture/Apex you will also be able to mix data between OBDII and direct sensors. Some things aren't available over OBDII. Oil Pressure and Oil temperature is a common one, so for those channels you'll be able to connect a direct sensor to RaceCapture/Pro's direct sensor inputs.
