Hello, I have jag powered kit car that I am thinking of putting mapped ignition on. has anyone done a jag engine or six cylinder unit. Initial issue that I can see is how to configure the megajolt and also which coil pack to use, can megajolt be used with a modified dizzy, in which the advance and retard have been disabled? can I take the manifold pressure off the existing vacuum connection to the dizzy? Any help would be appreciated as this seems very cost effective means of improving performance.

http://picasso.org/mjlj/?q=node/183 for a 6 cylinder install.
I guess you are in the UK? The 6 cylinder EDIS are a bit scarce in the UK but can be found...or you can get one from the States (or Oz I believe)
If you get a full 6 cylinder EDIS kit (the sensor, the EDIS itself and the coilpack) then that's the main components you need.
Megajolt doesn't use the distributor at all - you can take it right out the car! Have a look at
http://picasso.org/mjlj/?q=node/2 for an overview diagram of how it all works
The existing manifold connection is almost certainly a good place to take vacuum from
Any more questions, ask away....

Hi, I tried the link it just took me to the home page, or maybe I did not look deep enough. I'm starting the hunt for bits, and also need to figure out how to put a toothed wheel on as the vac comes off one of the carb inlets or could may be use the brake servo suction connection for a MAP. Any thoughts, which fordsw ere 6 cyl other than the mondeo 24V job and more importantly which ones have EDIS-6 and 6 cylinder coil pack on it?
Yes I'm in UK. How can I contact Bill shurvington?

The links work fine - you

The links work fine - you need to include the whole of the link down to and including the node number.
You need the most steady source of vacuum for a MAP sensor - so something that 'averages' the vacuum is best. If the brake servo takeoff is more 'average' than a carb inlet then I'd go for that
Email me at milleners at hotmail dot com and I can put you in contact with Bill...
Don't know anything about 6-cyl fords in the UK - I'll find out for you and post back

EDIS = Electronic Distributor
36-1 tooth gear = gears that run a real distributor

Taurus
Taurus SHO
Some minivans
Some trucks and vans
Model year 96 will be the last one for EDIS, from then on EDIS will be build into ECC-V. Look for vehicles which are controller by ECC-IV or ECC-4. Those will have EDIS installed.

Hmmm...as I thought - just Mondeos and Granadas
...or it seems, Taurus as well - but I don't think you'll find many of those in UK scrappers!

I have just got my 76 TR6 running. What a great improvement. Idle is much more stable and smooth. More power in upper rpm range. I thoroughly reccomend this. Ideas. I machined the balancer to put a 36-1 on the backside, then made a mount for the VR out of 3/4" aluminum plate. Used leftover plate to make mount for coil pack. The coil pack fits right where the old coil used to. Used the the positive coil ignition feed to switch a relay to power the system. Cut down an old distributor to run the mechanical tach. Got the EDIS, VR, coil pack, plug wires, and pigtails from a 95 Ranger P/U. The van and explorer also had the 4.0 V6 engine. Careful with what coil is which and firing order. I mocked up the system on my bench. Then fabricated the wiring harness (no changes to the stock harness and EDIS hid behind the drivers side center console, MJLJR mounted in passenger footwell) then checked it again with the harness. The only change I would make is to switch two of the coil sets (flip flop the power leads from the EDIS to the coil), this would have let me install the plug wires with no crossing, ie slightly neater appearance.

I Just helped a buddy get EDIS and MJLJ running on his TR6 as well! Had to muss with the firing order, but got it working quite well.
Al, we used your V8 MAP loaded in the files section.
Agreed we need some sort of repository for Ignition configurations!

Hi John
I'm also interested in a Jag 4.2 XK engine installation. Can you get in touch with me to discuss further. I'm in the UK too.
thanks
Bill

If you're not afraid to use eBay then purchasing from USA is the best way.
You don't have to use a Ford 6 cylinder coil pack, a Chrysler Voyager pack works at least as well.
It doesn't need those stupid Ford designed plug leads either - towers on the pack are the same as GM and earlier electronic ignition Fords.
I couldn't get reliable firing at 15psi boost (blown with LPG) with several Ford coil packs but each of three Chrysler units lights the fire every time.
