Hi all, I've been reading here for a while, ever since I thought I might use this system on my Chevy Chevette. I'd mulling over using MJLJ on my 87 Trans Am. It has tuned port fuel injection and I'd like to use that and MJLJ together. I haven't found any info on people trying this yet.
I could always try the Megasquirt system fo rboth, but I like the idea of the EDIS.
Has anyone heard anything about this being tried or accomplished?

Any make or model car can be made to run Megajolt or Megasquirt, or both!! My friend in Miami Police dept. has a Trans AM that he's modding. There is a vette that runs Megasquirt EFI.
The ECU in your Trans AM is old, possibly older than 1987, and it hasn't been updated since. Technologies offered here are being updated every half a year, sometimes more often. So you can benefit from Megajolt and Megasquirt with more power, or less emissions, and more driving controls such as traction control, EGR, closed loop EFI, etc.. Basically if you go for this you'll be upgrading your 1980s junkers to year 2006.
I've personally modded 2 fords, a 95 crown victoria, and 2001 mustang gt. I run Megasquirt II EFI and Megajolt. You can have Megasquirt II do both ignition and injection for you, but I prefer them separate. Installation in Fords is easier, at least the ignition part, since we already have the 36-1 tooth gear installed.
The 36-1 tooth gear and VR sensor is what will drive EDIS-8 for you. It is the toughest part of your installation. The rest is just following schematics and wiring. So the answer to your question is that there is nothing to accomplish.. Gather the parts and proceed with installation. As far as Megajolt goes, you can have the system running without Megajolt unit, with 36-1 gear VR sensor EDIS-8 and coils only. That will run at 10 degrease BTDC and let you know if you're capable of doing the rest of this project.
If you actually do this, make sure to write an article on how to install these systems on your type of cars. There are plenty of people who want to go fast cheap, but don't have hands or head for it.

Because these systems are customizable you can have a pretty crazy vision with your engine. For example, stick multi stage variable intake from BMW or ford on top of it and make it run using programmable outputs. That could upgrade you to 90 hp/liter, your 350 will love that.

As Al describes, you can run MJLJ with your stock fuel injection, Megaquirt modified to work with EDIS, or Megasquirt + MJLJ. All will work well. I run a V1.1 Megasquirt with a V 2.3 MJLJ (I haven't switched over to my V3 design yet!!! ) on a turbocharged toyota 4AG motor. (See contact/about link at top).
I would love to see more American V8 running MJLJ- I don't think there's been a ton of exposure in the American classic car community.

Well, I'm back...he.
I think the main thing I'll need then is a trigger wheel.
All the other parts seem pretty straight forward.
I did however find a dizzy plug for it.

Hey, when you get your setup, dont go crazy! Too much timing + stock cast pistons can equate to a cracked piston. Had it happen to me. Also, timing should be smooth. If you search the file library here, you'll find my 4.6 map, which had timing go to zero at no throttle. That was made so that I could easily get it loose - thanks to Tom Cloud's example - who would have thought Id get it loose at over 100 mph!! Nobody even believed me I could get it loose at that speed, but it happened.
Hardest part for you is the trigger wheel and crank sensor. You should look at how ford has it on 4.6L..
