Help... a mate of mine has a V2 board that is nearly completed... he's taking his time lol, but he's somehow managed to loose his programmed MC.

I have a brand new one here, but it's completely blank. Is there a way I can program it from scratch? I take it i'd need to build some sort of simple programmer, and down load the appropriate bootloader firmware etc. but I'm unsure as to what exactly I'd need to build to do this. A schematic of a suitable programmer would be great.

We have a copy of "codewarrior" at work with a 68HC908 development kit, but sadly no programmer, just a dev. board.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

For a one-off replacement, I'd sent Brent $8 and get a new one!

There is enough detail in the firmware download (I think, but I've never found the source/object code for the bootloader - which is more than just a traditional generic bootloader I believe) to be able to work out what you need...plus you'll need to Google for a suitable 68HCxx microcontroller programmer - which seem to be well over GBP100 for the ones I was looking at.

Are you sure your development kit can't program external controllers?

He's still looking for his original chip... it'll be in his garage somewhere...

I saw somewhere a DIY programmer, I believe it was either this site or Megasquirt's site. And yes, buying chip off Brent is cheaper, if 1 is all you need. (unless your job has parts you can barrow)

I built my own programmer based on the one available for the 40 pin megasquirt processor.
You need to get the correct s19 file and burn to the processor first, then the boot loader programme.The files and method are available on this site and info about programing is on the freescale site along with some basic programmer circuits.
I built the programmer just for the sake of it but its no worthwhile when you can buy a programmed processor from brent for $8.

I don't suppose you could e mail me a scematic? I have a development kit, but it doesn't seem to be able to program a new chip... it has the 8 pin version on board.

I dont have the actual schematic on my Pc at present , i just worked it out as i went but will try and find one similiar over the next couple of days if not to desperate and will forward it to you.
