In my opinion, you have WAY too much advance there... certainly for a starting map... you say you have to back off to get the revs up, that could be because the engine is pinking away and not producing any power! Without being rude, do you know what pinking / pre-ignition is? If not or if you're no...

hi Brent
when out on the road the engine has much less bottom end torque than it did with the dizzy.
i'm also having to back of to get it to rev above 3200-3500 rpm.
its quite hard to watch the laptop when your bouncing about on 47 year old leaf springs!
the map you suggest is for a v8?

the timing should be 3 deg btdc so im 7 deg out maybe more as i havent strobed it yet.
starting is instant and no choke required .
the tickover is lumpy but the engine doesnt miss or pop as it did before!
all in im well chuffed so far :D

so far so good

just had my motor running in limp home mode.
not bad for a first timer!
it starts on the button and ticks over very roughly but as the timing is at least 7 deg out im pretty impressed !
hope to get the mjlj wired up this week cant wait :D

oh i thought it would be the middle of the tooth that should line up.
i took my reference from the middle of the missing tooth.
would this not be correct?
