Thanks for the suggestion guys, I'll try that as soon as it stops snowing.

As far as the coil packs go, would you recommend the accel ones, or are they crap? Also is there a way to switch over the wires to normal spark plug wires?

Below are my current ignition and the stock curve, right now it doesn't change any between load and no load. I originally had it with less advance under load then increased it trying to resolve the issue. Like I said it works fine at 2000+ RPM. The coil pack and wires are from ebay, they were out of...

No power below 2000 RPM, aircooled VW motor

A bit baffled by this situation and I'm not sure where to start on troubleshooting this. I have the stock distributor curve for my vehicle and set a flat map for it. Sitting still revving the engine it revs nicely, no issues. While driving down the road, regardless of the gear (even first gear at a ...

Any idea if there is a more common sensor that might be a little bit easier to find at an auto parts store? (maybe cheaper too). What I was really hoping for is that someone had mapped a sensor from a common vehicle, and had the mapping in an excel spreadsheet that they could just send to me... I kn...

Anyone mapped a temp sensor?

I'm running an air cooled VW Engine and I want to install a temp sensor, stock they have no sensors. Just wondering if anyone here has already premapped a temp sensor? If there is a specific one that seems to work pretty well that comes from another car I can buy it and find a place to install it, i...

My understanding is that the vacuum advance on cars is to improve the fuel efficency of an engine at the lower end of the rev range. All modern engines have a manifold vacuum port to which they recieve information of the engines load in order to give the correct amount of advance. Advance increases...

Thanks for the responses. I think the vacuum issue is what caused a lot of confusion for me, since I'm basically having to write the map backwards. I'll try and tap the manifold with a barb to attach the vacuum line to and see if I can just plug the carb. I have a map from a centrifugal dizzy, with ...

Some clearifcation need on advance under load/vacuum

I'm a little confused as I've read it many different ways and I don't have a solid understanding of this yet, so I'll explain my situation as it stands and hopefully someone can clear this up for me. I have an old VW air cooled engine, running MAP to the mjlj. At idle my vacuum reading is 97 kpa, ac...

So the PIP Signal goes from the molex, to the MAX232A chip, and on to the processor. The ULN2003 isn't used in the PIP circuit. If you haven't already, touch up all of the solder joints on these two chips and the capacitors around the chip. Let us know what you find out! Thanks for all the info. It...

Engine has to spin at 460 (exactly) RPM before it'll pick up the speed and displace it in the MJLJ, just FYI.

A dewalt 18v with a charged battery will spin it a 540 RPM :)

I took the unit apart and removed the rev limiter as a simple step to eliminate any potential problems. I've been staring at the schematics and as I'm not 100 percent educated (beyond just looking at it) i'm not real sure how it relates to locations on the physical board. But as I can tell the PIP s...

I think you've seen the verification steps in the assembly guide to test different voltages, but just in case here it is: http://www.autosportlabs.net/MJLJ_V4_vehicle_installation_guide#Verification_Steps The problem centers around the reading the PIP signal. When you're repeating the verification ...

I should probably also specify that I tried spinning the pulley by attaching a drill to it, making it spin at least a couple hundred RPM. Not sure if there is a minimum RPM it needs to spin before the MJLJ will pick up anything, but I'm not sure how else to test and see if it's communicating with th...

No RPM readout

After working on this for quite a while I finally got my megajolt installed in my sand rail. I built the MJLJ kit and am able to read map pressure by blowing on it, my laptop will also communicate, read/write to the unit. The problem Im having is I'm not getting any RPM read out. I have the splined ...

Cool, I read the whole post. How's it working for you, and what type of fittings did you use? Do you think using MAP on these is better than TPS?
