To avoid pre-ignition basically.
At small throttle openings, the actual compression ratio is low, due the throttle starving the engine. At such low compression, you need more advance to get good economy.
The wider the throttle, the more true compression goes up, bigger risk of pre-ignition.

Hello, I recently purchased a megajolt and initially the unit worked great. However, my car will now only run on the edis fixed timing (confirmed with strobe) and it seems that although I am sending the PIP signal to the megajolt, it's doing nothing with it.
