Please clarify a point for me. I have looked through some of my references, and they show the 88 Thunderbird as being the only 2.3 with a turbo. This engine is listed as only having a distributor, and not distributorless ignition.
Do you have an 88 2.3 turbo with no distributor?

I thought YOU brought the MAP!
No.
Ford map sensors output a waveform, and the frequency varies with vacuum. Conventional MAP sensors have a voltage that varies with vacuum.

Once I was a Pinto..... Just look at me NOW!
Grounding the towers means running a regular wire from the engine block to each of the distributor towers. Normally the coil would just be disconnected, but some ignition modules read the voltage spike the coil makes when it fires, for diagnostics. For these systems, the coil must still produce a sm...

Slippery DIS
This page has a couple clickable pictures of an oil pump drive unit used for DIS cars. This engine uses a front cam pickup for SMPFI, as I recall.

In-who's-face?
I believe that it is highly impractical to interface the MjLj with any stock fuel injection ECU. Most engine management computers control ignition timing, and expect to see a signal back from the ignition module that confirms timing is at the value the ECU is trying to set. Building an interface tha...

The machine that goes Ping!
True, but they aren't running 310 degree engine temperatures with 10.25 compression on 87 octane gas. In this case, the pinging is a direct result of the head being so freaking hot.

Some DON'T Like it Hot...
I am having a similar problem. Doing 80 or better up hill resulted in a pesky HOT light in about 5 minutes. I tried a new 17x24 4 core radiator, new thermostat, water pump and a 4600 cfm fan. Now it takes 10 minutes. sigh. But at least it cools down a bit faster. the engine holds about 200 degrees c...

Why did the coil over cross the road?
Although that is true if you wanted to fire the coil overs individually, it would be overly complex to try and switch the coil trigger line back and forth between the paired cylinders using a cam pickup and electronics. By firing both coils at once, the spirit of the EDIS is maintained, each time th...

What are ya packin?
The dual plug coil packs used on the I4 and V8 Ford EDIS system consist of two "dual spark" coils. They are wired to a common positive pin, and have a separate ground pin for each coil primary winding for a total of three pins. The I4 uses one pack, the V8, two. When one of the two coil pr...

What size motor you got? Extra Large!
Not many enthusiasts other than myself have converted American big blocks. More the pity, because they perform even more admirably than ever, both on the street, and at the pump.

Challenge you to a duel!
Of course! However, the number of people that own dual plug cars and want to run a custom timing curve is rather small. But after you run some successful tests, that number could suddenly increase ;) I only have experience with some of the older Nissan dual plug engines, but as I recall, under certa...

The man with two brains
It’s entirely possible that two EDIS would run off a single MJLJ. The potential issues are that the VR sensor signal would not support two modules, and that dual wiring could cause ground loops and other weird feedback.

Ready... Set... BLOW!
This has been discussed before. The previous consensus was that using two EDIS modules would require two MJLJs as well, which is not practical. So, that leaves trying to drive two coil packs at the same time. Two coil packs will double the load on the driver circuit in the EDIS. Only experimentation...

How much too much, is too much?
The 12v LED will have a maximum voltage rating from the manufacturer. The actual maximum voltage will be 10-20% higher than this, to allow for manufacturing irregularities. So, counting line loss, and the .3 or so that the CE junction drops, you're probably fine. Of course, just to be safe, I'd put ...

Null and Void
You should not have used a "NULL" serial cable to attach the MJLJ to your computer. These special cables are only for attaching one computer to another computer. Use a standard cable to attach a device to the computer. But, that shouldn't have made the unit blow. Some of the other wires ar...
