Porsche 924s / 944 8V 2.5l NA

Post by Dean924s »

Engine Mfg: Porsche

Engine Code: 8 Valve SOHC

Cylinders: 4

Displacement (cc):2499

Rev Limit: 6200

TPS or MAP: MAP

Boosted or Normally Aspirated: NA

Modifications: 1983 motor with lower compression (9.0 versus 9.5 for the post 85.5 2.5L NA motors). Motor was built to the limit of SCCA IT Specifications for Road Racing. (Balanced and blue printed with forged internals that were only in the 1983 model year) and mild port and polish.

Chassis: 1987 924s

Notes: I took this that was provided to me by a member in the Pelican web site and I interpolated it into the 10x10 format. The stock Porsche DME uses a 12x12 format with TPS. I run premium fuel (93 octane) and my car really likesit. The map pulls smooth up to red line. Motor feels crisp and responsive. No Knock detected. A noticeable improvement over stock.

I will post up improvements as I make them / discover them.

Here is an improved stock map. Note that it is not much different in the high end and at idle from the 93 octane map. It is detuned in the middle of the rpms range from 50-100 on the load scale.

Bar-non the best map to date. I have installed a new trigger wheel and some better wiring from the VR sensor to the EDIS unit. This map is just fantastic!!!! Completely drivable around town yet goes like crazy when asked to.

As usual this is using 93 octane. I bet there is a couple more degrees in the upper section of the map but with out a knock sensor in place I am not going to explore it.

Through my being an idiot I put regular in the car the other day. No pinging on the current map but the car was definitely not happy. It idled much worse and it was just not as smooth. So while I proved that this map can be run with 87 octane 93 is much better. The plus side to this was I just changed maps and all was good till I could burn that tank.

I still have not hit the rolling road yet. May be some time this summer if time allows.

New Map - Works with 87 as well as 93.

Post by Dean924s »

Well the car has had some surgery. The biggest part was a new timing belt combined with removing the cam tower due to oil leaks. All is back together and running great but I found that timing seemed a bit advanced (probably due to the new timing bet). I was also not happy with some part throttle settings as well as cold start. Nothing that was really all that much of an issue as I have been saying I would get to adjusting it for over a year. But with the new timing belt and the feeling that the car seemed to have to much timing I get to it and made the changed to the map.

The attached map addressed part throttle smoothness as well as off idle when cold issues. IT makes the car a much better street car. I smoothed out some things and backed the timing down in a couple places in the Map by a degree or two. Just these little tweaks really made the over all drivability much better.

This is a modified version of my 93 octane map. The tweaks made now allow me to use it with 87 octane but the car seems to have the same pull and it over all runs much smoother.
