no RPM reading

Post by kitcarfreak »

I've got a self assembled MJLt V4RevB for TPS with hard Rev limiter option
Using firmware v4.0.2.S19
Using Configurator V4.0.1
Engine Toyota 4age 16v small port with twin dellorto's
EDIS4 from a '93 fiesta with uncut VR sensor and coil pack wiring.

Wired everything up and verified: GND (also to EDIS4 and TPS), +12V (also to EDIS4), SAW, PIP, Vref, TPS, Coil Power

I've loaded a base map for 4age from on here. I get a TPS reading, I can write the config to flash, yet at crancking i don't get a RPM reading. But it is sparking, so EDIS and VR are working.

When I measure across GND and PIP i get 10.5V at rest and bouncing between 2.5V and 5V when cranking. So it's receiving a signal.

I also traced internally and connection between the PIP pin and MAX232 P8 is ok, MAX232 P9 to IC1 P1 and U1 P9 are OK (all measured on IC itself to verify if solders are ok)

Only thing that's not correct atm is that the TPS is inverted, so have to switch the wires, but this shouldn't influence RPM.

I also tried another EDIS4 module with same result.

Anyone know what's wong? I haven't measured SAW, maybe should wheck that to see if MJLt is doing the advance or not. But is something measured there when cranking?

If I recall correctly, the minimum display is 453rpm....

Hello,

To expand on Martin's reply, the MJLJ starts measuring RPM above about 450 RPM's. Are you able to start and run the engine?

ah, so there might be nothing wrong then?

That's very usefull info. So might not crank fast enough, haven't started the engine so that might explain a lot.

Thanks for the info.

Will try starting tomorrow then.

Tried starting and it went like huh, huh, WHOOM

So I just had to start it, also connected the tps correctly and now starts better then before and seems to run better too, at least no pufs(in carbs) and bangs(in exhaust) during warm-up

It was previous running on a ERD HYPERPAK ignition through the dizzy, completely worthless in my opinion
