Can I use MAP on my setup?

Post by unariciflocos »

I have a Peugeot 205 Gti 1.9 8V running Mikuni carbs from a GSX-R1100 (no TPS) and a Kent PT23 Race cam with 304 degrees duration and 12.4 valve lift.

I've built a vacuum reservoir from a ~300mm long 40mm diameter pipe, connected via 4 nozzles to the inlets, each 10 mm internal diameter and approximately 25mm long. You can see the reservoir sitting horizontally behing the carbs in the attached photo.

My question is, could I use the MAP with this setup, considering the reservoir will smooth the vacuum signal a bit? If not how could I use a TPS with my carbs?

And while I'm at it, how difficult is it to assemble a kit? I'm an automation engineer, what are the chances of me c**king it up?

Thanks,
Andrei

Hi Andrei,

It seems you've built a fairly large reservoir. Can you attach a vacuum gauge an monitor the smoothness of the signal? A steady signal under varying conditions is what you are seeking with a MAP setup.

For assembling the kit and having a reliable unit you should have very good soldering skills and the right equipment. If you haven't already, review the installation steps here:

The shop next to the one my car's in is a bike repair shop and they have vacuum gauges. I'll have to see how the vacuum behaves, if not I'll have to find a way to use the injection TPS with the carbs.

I need to figure out which of the two systems I need because the dizzy vacuum capsule is broken and I need the car to perform by the 15th of February.

Thanks for the fast reply, I'll be back with an order asap.
