Another Mini!

Post by mexicanbandit »

My project;

Started off as a 1990 Racing Green. I finished two years worth of rebuild in January 2008; now starting on a Megajolt installation in preparation for a new engine and gearbox this year.

Standard 998cc A+
All steel flip front
Minisport Adjustaride suspension kit
Safety Devices six point rollcage
Cobra Clubman driver's seat with Securon four point harness
Momo Model 69 steering wheel
KAD Mk2 Quickshift
Complete rewire with home-made 18 fuse wiring loom

Got a full kit from trigger-wheels.com (very impressed with them by the way). It's been a bit of a leisurely installation so far, got the kit in November and I'm just starting to install it in the car. Seem to have spent most of my time so far just making brackets for various things!

Not yet - still got to finish wiring it up and get the trigger wheel on. Would be a bit further on but it's had an MOT right in the middle of the installation and I didn't think the MOT guy would appreciate having loose cabling all over the place! Hopefully get it up and running over the next couple of weekends.

Done!

Well, after a bout of illness and an amount of working in the snow, it's now running Megajolt. And it makes a MASSIVE difference. Still a fair bit of fine tuning to do, but it's so much smoother than it was, and it revs much more happily. At the moment it's taking the ported vacuum off the carb, but I think I will be changing that to the manifold fairly soon.

Update and Pics

It's been up and running for a decent amount of time now and I've hooked up the tacho (direct feed off the MJLJ output to the standard three clock dash; no problems). I'm running two maps with the selector switch; the Aldon Yellow and 123-Mini Curve 4 (both by KLAS). Both seem to work well, I'm yet to really decide which is best and start fiddling with it to make it more suited to the engine.
