If you're concerned, stick a palte of 3mm ally behind it or, even better, recover some ally heatsink and clamp that against the back of the EDIS. They don't get particularly hot, but the ones known to have failed have generally overheated so taking measures to keep your cool will help. Mine's been screwed to my Mini's bulkhead with a lump of heatsink for nearly twelve months and all seems good.

I had a concern regarding this ( in addition to a question about waterproofing the unit ) and Brent replied to my query to say that the unit generates very little heat. Article link here. http://www.autosportlabs.org/viewtopic.php?t=2183 hope this helps.

Mine's been mounted to a carpet-covered piece of plywood for 4000 miles, no problems so far. MJLJ and EDIS next to each other in the passenger compartment, behind the passenger seat on the firewall.

I would be more concerned about how you have the unit mounted relative to how the plug goes into the unit. After some studying I cam to realise that the units are always mounted with the plug oriented at a downward angle. I am assuming that this is for weatherproofing as if water got in to the plug with it mounted up it would be trapped and could render the unit inoperable. In other words hit a big bubble with the unit facing up and you could come to an abrupt stop. When I took the units from the vehicles I made sure to take the mounting brackets with the EDIS units as this ensures the proper heatsink as well as it made mounting the EDIS unit in the downward angle a snap.
