I installed the new sensor and the new trigger wheel (3/8" wide). And the results are nothing short of spectacular. I have to adjust the bottom end of the map (low rpm high vac) down about 2-3 degrees to compensate for the slight difference in the alignment of the sensor and the trigger wheel.

While swapping things over I found that the crimp connections on the spade connectors that I used on the VR sensor were loose. I am sure that this is why I was getting an intermittent miss. Now that I have it all crimped tight with new connections I took it for a test drive and that problem is gone. With the new 3/8" wide wheel the signal is much better in the upper RPM ranges the car runs much smoother, reves come up much better faster and it pulls like a run away train. So I think I have found the solution to my problems. I will post up photos of the new trigger wheel and sensor installation later. It is much better than the previous one. I never did get to install a cover over the old one. Now that I have this all set I will have to get on that.

One other note by reversing the location of the magnet in the mounting of the RX7 VR sensor it did not switch the polarity of the sensor. I wired it up the same as the previous one and it worked first try.

Another thing to note. I secured the electromagnetic pickup to the steel center post with some gorilla glue. In the configuration I have it it is not retained by the magnets and in theory could slide down and hit the trigger wheel. On my other sensor this was loose and could move but was retained by the brackett that the magnet mounts to. I am wondering if this may have also contributed to my problems. But in either case it is up and running better than ever!!!

Now that this is sorted I can go back to my M62 installation!!

I purchased it from McMaster Car. It is a spur gear. I then ended up ordering other ones directly from the manufacturer that shipped from a local stocking distributor. If you look at my thread that deals with my entire saga of getting my car running I think I put all the information there.

I hate to be a pain, but where do I find your thread? I'm looking for that McM-C part number. I've done a crankfire on a Corvair turbo, with wonderful results, and am now putting this on an IH four-cylinder using a trigger wheel on the crank. Very easy. The IH V8 guys have a tougher adaptation for mounting a wheel on the harmonic balancer and we're looking at how to adapt an IH distributor to the 72-2 setup. This gear and the RX-7 pickup coil look perfect for this.
