can not open port...

Ok, iv got my MJ powered up with a 9v battery, and connected into the laptop...

Its in com1 , thats the only one other than the printer one...

I open the software, click help / about, and it says can not open port...

any ideas?

Ohh and im using a usb adaptor that i got from maplin today, i think i saw it reccomended on here somewhere.

Both the Cofig software and the USB/serial adapter must be set as the same port - look in Control Panel>System>Hardware>Device manager to check the port settings are correct.

ok, iv got the setting all open,what am i actually looking for, and what to change etc?

under ports iv got comm port (comm1)
ECP printer port (lpt1)

ahh... and above it i have... other devices... usb-serial controller...

right, i double click on that and it says its not installed, so i click to install and it says it cant as the wizard cannot find the necessary softwere...

but i thought it was just a plug it in a off you go thing

so any ideas.

Didn't you get a disc? If not , google "Prolific usb serial driver" and you'll find it.
Once that's installed the usb adapter shows up as a port under "Ports COM and LPT".

NOPE NO DISK!

done a google search and loads of people had the same problem with these and there was a download... and.. iv done it

Its now shown as comm7... and im sitting here sucking and blowing watching my engine load go up and down

wooooo.
